Indonesian Language

The national language is spoken throughout the country. It is also known as Bahasa Indonesia. Bahasa Indonesia is similar to Bahasa Melayu (which is used in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam).
Here are some basic Indonesian words that is useful for you to communicate.

  • Boy / Girl: Mas / Adek
  • Excuse me: Permisi
  • Good morning: Selamat pagi
  • Good afternoon: Selamat siang
  • Good evening: Selamat sore
  • Good night: Selamat malam
  • How are you?: Apa kabar?

  • Yes / No: Ya / Tidak

  • Power sockets: Type C and F.
  • Standard voltage / frequency: 230V / 50hz.

Transportations in Indonesia

There are many types of transportation in Indonesia, such as:

  • Airlines – Indonesian airlines are Garuda Indonesia and Indonesia AirAsia. You can buy ticket from the airlines websites, or travel agents.
  • Taxis – There are many metered taxis around and preferrably use only Bluebird taxis to prevent from scams.
  • Buses – Tickets are cheap. There are 3 classes; Economy, Express, and Executive class.
  • Cars – Available for rental, which usually around 400,000Rp.
  • Motorbikes – Available for rental, which usually around 60,000Rp.
  • Pedicabs / becak – A three-wheeled cart, either motor-powered or manually peddled.
  • Ojek – A motorbike taxi, the motorcyclist that offers rides to wherever you want to go.
  • Dokar – A two-wheeled cart, horse-drawn. It fits 3 or 4 people.
